We sat down with Samantha Brunson from Sosa Knitwear for our hot minute interview.
LAURA LITTLE CURATED: What do you design? / Create?
SAMANTHA: SOSA Knitwear is a handmade knitting and crochet label. This Fall/Winter collection is all about super chunky and comfy knits. Every piece is produced in my studio, located in Manhattan.
LAURA LITTLE CURATED: How long have you been creating?
SAMANTHA: I first learned how to knit at college. I attended SAIC and was in their Fashion Design Department. For some reason I put off actually learning how to knit for the longest time. I didn’t pick up a crochet hook until my junior year of college. Then I learned how to knit the summer before my senior year and I never looked back. I started SOSA Knitwear in 2014.
LAURA LITTLE CURATED: Who’s a iconic inspiration to you? Why?
SAMANTHA: Knitting inspiration hands down I have to say Sandra Backlund. If you haven’t seen her collections go and look her up right away she is a true artist. But my all time favorite icon has to be Frida Kahlo. I love her passion, use of texture and overall sense of style. I’ve been a huge fan for a long time and every time I look at her work I still find something new.

LAURA LITTLE CURATED: What are you wearing? and by whom?
SAMANTHA: Bright red bell bottoms from Loft, a tank who’s label came off long ago, and a sweater that I’m developing for the next collection.
LAURA LITTLE CURATED: What is the last album you listened to?
SAMANTHA: Hozier It’s the perfect knitting soundtrack.
LAURA LITTLE CURATED: What are you reading?
SAMANTHA: Three Lives by Gertrude Stein
LAURA LITTLE CURATED: If you could say one thing before death what would it be?
SAMANTHA: Well… that was fun!
